JHN 029 - 11"x17" Scanner

In 2016 we installed a new color scanner in JHN 029 that can scan up to 11"x17" (B-size) media. It is physically located at the end of the south row of tables, just to the right of the plotter. Any computer in JHN 029 can scan from it unlike the other small format scanners that require you to use the computer they are plugged into.

Scanning - Flatbed

  1. Place your media face down on the scanner with one corner lining up with the green corner of the scanner
  2. Click the Start Menu and select "Devices and Printers"
  3. Right+Click the "JHN 029 Color Printer & Scanner"
  4. Click "Start Scan"
  5. You may change the setting to suit your needs
    • Profile can be "Use last settings" if you are making multiple scans, otherwise it can be ignored
    • Source should be Flatbed
    • Only select color if the media is in color; otherwise Black and White or Grayscale will prevent artificial coloring
    • File type can be whatever format you prefer
    • Resolution (DPI) can be up to 1200x1200
    • Brightness & Contrast can normally be ignored but you can tweak them if needed
  6. Click Preview to verify that your settings are correct
  7. Click Scan to save the image
  8. A new window will appear (look for a blinking icon on the task bar if you don't see it) titled "Import Pictures and Videos"
  9. You may change the "Import settings" if you like, but otherwise you can just click Import.
  10. A new window window will appear with all images scanned the same day. If you lose this folder you can find it again by clicking Start and selecting "Pictures" then going to the correct date (YYYY-MM-DD format).

Scanning - Feeder

Warning - only put flat documents through the feeder. Folded, previously stapled, crinkled, etc documents may be torn if fed through the feeder.

  1. Place your media face up on the document feeder
    • Source should be "Feeder (Scan one side)" for single sided documents or "Feeder (Scan both sides)" for double sided documents
    • Paper size should be set to whatever the size of your media is (Letter is 8.5"x11")
  6. Click Scan to save the image
    • If you get a "No paper in document feeder." error try gently pushing the paper further down in the feeder.
  7. A new window will appear (look for a blinking icon on the task bar if you don't see it) titled "Import Pictures and Videos"
  8. You may change the "Import settings" if you like, but otherwise you can just click Import.
  9. A new window window will appear with all images scanned the same day. If you lose this folder you can find it again by clicking Start and selecting "Pictures" then going to the correct date (YYYY-MM-DD format).
    • Duplex scanning will produce one image per page
